Fota Christmas
Fota Island resort have a reputation for hosting the biggest, most immersive christmas experiences in the country. Every year they do something different, bigger and better than the previous year. In 2019 Rob took on the Lead design role in the project, working with Ministry of Makers, he set about creating some magic under the theme, ‘Wonder’.
The job entailed design, production specifications, artwork, AV and layout for all the areas and pathways between them, including: a christmas market, box office, Enchanted cabin, 8 Grottos, Live reindeer quarters, Postmasters hut, Lollipop lane, Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, then a travelator through time and space, Santa’s workshop and finally the returning time machine.
The enchanted cabin was a steel framed structure built around an exiting tree inhabited by elves who entertained guests before being called to talk to Santa. The travelator had the floor moving slowly, first through a clock store, then a cloud of dreams, mind bending reversing mirrors and finally a tunnel of candy. On into Santa’s workshop.
The experience took 1.5 hours to walk through with meticulous detail across every bit of the route. From start to finish the 60,000 or so guests were totally immersed for the duration.
